Nifty Users Online - Where is it?
By David Burgess @ 1:02 PM :: 676 Views :: 0 Comments ::

I know that you have seen the nifty users online option on many sites (including this one).  And you may have even looked for this little module.  If you have you probably have not found this on the web anywhere...

Well, that is because you get it when you download the DotNetNuke 3.0 source code.  Yep, that is correct, if you have downloaded the DotNetNuke 3.0 source code you have already downloaded the Users Online module.

If you only have a hosting environment then you will have to download the code and setup a development area on one of your servers to get this code.  You can look at another article on how to download and install DotNetNuke 3.0.  But if you have already done this then you are ready to upload the module to your site.

Navigate to your site.  Log in using the host account at your site and select the Module Definitions menu item off of the HOST menu.  When this comes up hover your mouse over the module definitions title and when the popup menu opens select Upload Module

Now, click the browse button on the screen and navigate to the DesktopModules directory under you test DotNetNuke installation.  This is usually c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke\DesktopModules

When you are there select the file: DotNetNuke.UsersOnLine.Zip and click the open button on the dialog box.  Now add this file for upload (by clicking the word Add and now click Upload New File.  This will run the upload and place the UsersOnline module into the list of modules to be used on your site.

Now, have fun using the module!
